26 ur collections are our "biggest seller." We get over 1.5 million circs on a little under a quarter million items. In the world of libraries, this is an excellent turnover rate. We are well above the national average. The purpose of our collections is to connect you to ideas. We purchase, circulate, shelve, and maintain a wide variety of formats and titles. It's hard work but satisfying when we connect the right item with the right person. Because our mission is to connect with and strengthen community, we are about being customer- centric. We develop our collections on a community based model. Our collections have to reflect our community. 2017 saw the launch of the Indie Collection. This collection will help local self-published authors reach an audience, and connect the community with materials that have been created by and about people from Lethbridge. This pilot project will also help Lethbridge Public Library gauge community interest in carrying self- published writing, music, or film. We have expanded our juvenile French collection into an international collection. This growing collection focuses on languages other than English that are prevalent in Lethbridge. We are also pleased to be able to purchase titles from indigenous authors in a growing publishing trend. The library supports the #weneeddiversebooks movement that advocates the production and promotion of literature that reflects and honours the lives of all young people through their authentic voices. Other highlights from 2017 include: • Completing the Collections Connections Barbara Longair, Manager: Public Services and Children's Services
