Family Movie Matinees Bring some snacks and join us for some family-friendly movies! All ages are welcome to attend. Younger children must be accompanied by an adult. This year we will be celebrating live-action remakes. Even with Cinderella, the Jungle Book, and Beauty and the Beast there is still much look back on and much to anticipate in coming years. Theatre Gallery (Main Branch) All movies start at 2:30 pm. SATURDAY November 18: Pete's Dragon (1977) [G, 128 min] Spelling Mini-Bee and Spelling Bee Do you spurn spellchecker? Love a good lexicon? Have a flair for knowing where to put "i" and "e"? Join the Lethbridge Public Library Spelling Mini-Bee and Spelling Bee! Grade 1 - 3 students: Spelling Mini-Bee SATURDAY October 21, 2:00 pm Main Branch (Theatre Gallery) Stretch your spelling muscles at our two study sessions for Mini-Bee participants. These sessions are optional: SATURDAYS 10:00—11:00 am October 7, October 14 Kids' Corner (Main Branch) Grade 4 - 6 students: Spelling Bee SATURDAY October 28, 2:00 pm Main Branch (Theatre Gallery) Spellers must pre-register at www.lethlib.ca. Online registration opens on September 1, 2017. The winner of each Bee will receive a trophy and a variety of prizes. Story Walk October 17—November 21 All day, every day Helen Schuler Nature Centre Enjoy a children's book on the trails! Walk the Nature Quest trail just north of the Helen Schuler Nature Centre this Fall to read "Trout are Made of Trees" by April Sayre. THURSDAY December 28: The Sword in the Stone (1963) [G, 79 min] WANTED (Main Branch): Youth volunteers for Ready, Set, Read! If you have completed any grades from grade 3 -12, enjoy reading with younger children, and would like to spend quality time at the library – then this 'JOB' is for you! You choose your schedule and work as many days as you would like. Readers for Ready, Set, Read! If you have completed grade 1, 2, or 3, can read and want to keep reading, then this program is for you! Join us for as many days as you like; you choose your own schedule. Register at lethlib.ca Registration for Readers may be limited. Ready, Set, Read! is not suitable for children with learning/reading disabilities. All participants must be mature enough to attend without adult accompaniment. Partnered Program: Loose Parts MONDAY, November 6 10:00—11:30 am Theatre Gallery (Main Branch) Loose Parts can be lined up, stacked, twisted and turned to make designs shapes and structures. There is no wrong way to play. To register visit lethbridgeearlyyears.ca. Special Events We're having art show! Kids' Corner (Main Branch) If you are 12 years old or under and like to paint, draw or colour then… We want to see your masterpiece! What does the Canadian landscape look like to you? We will be accepting submissions for artists 12 years old and under. Art can be submitted during the month of November at the Children's Services Desk of the Main Branch. We will be hosting our inaugural Art Show Gala on December 30, 2017. ART SHOW GALA December 30, 2:00—4:00 pm Wear your finest and see your artwork displayed in our Kids' Art Gallery. Share this special event with your family in our photo booth. Enjoy light snacks and 'bubbly'. Exhibit runs December 12—January 6, 2018.
