The money is used to support the Festival which provides a celebration in the downtown core, "thereby creating an exciting and vibrant downtown and attracting audiences to the Heart of Our City." The Word On The Street Festival was nominated for the inaugural 2016 Celebrate Downtown awards, in the Hip Downtown Transformation Award category. 26
