22 Supporting the Work of the Lethbridge Public Library by Isabelle Henderson, President, Friends of the Lethbridge Public Library The Friends of Lethbridge Public Library is an organization that supports the Library through advocacy and fundraising. The Friends' support is key to providing value added programming and services at the Library, and is a great volunteer opportunity. The Friends sponsored a number of special items for the Library's 100 th anniversary in 2019, and you can learn more about what they do at lethlibfriends.ca. 2019 was a busy year for the Friends of the Lethbridge Public Library. Our sources of revenue came from the following: • ongoing Booktique used book sales; • book sales Spring and Winter, 2019; • casinos held March 30 and 31, 2019. This past year, we donated approximately $28,000 to the following Library projects: • Writer in Residence, Danika Stone; • support for Lethbridge Presents program; • title sponsorship for The Word On The Street; • 100 th Anniversary promotional items; • Teen Zone signage; • event equipment for both branches; • the Crossings Branch toy library. The Friends has also made a $100,000 commitment to facilitate 2020 improvements to the Children's area of the Crossings Branch. The objectives of the Friends of the Lethbridge Public Library are: • to publicize and promote library services and advocate the Library's mission; • to aid in providing funds to meet special library needs or to benefit library services. Without our dedicated volunteers, none of the above would be possible. We sincerely thank all our board members and volunteers for their service during the past year. However, we were very sad to lose Karran Thorpe and Leslie Vaala to retirement. They willingly dedicated 13 years of volunteer services to the Library and Friends. We wish them well.
