GENERAL 2024 MARCH/APRIL HAPPENING 3 Lethbridge Public Library is preparing to bid a fond farewell to The Happening. This publication has been LPL's bi- monthly newsletter for almost 50 years! The decision to sunset this longstanding publication was made in order to serve our customer and community better, finding new and efficient ways to share everything that happens at the Library. As such, this issue will be the final edition of The Happening. In 2022, Lethbridge Public Library (LPL) engaged a communications consultant to review our current communications and help us define a new strategy in alignment with the Library Board's Plan of Service, 2022- 2026. The resulting Strategic Communications Plan outlines LPL's communications priorities over the next several years in view of achieving the following objectives: 1. To communicate Lethbridge Public Library's (LPL) Mission, Vision and Values to all employees, board members and volunteers and to inspire them to use these foundational statements to navigate and imagine the future of the LPL. 2. To use the Mission, Vision, and Values as foundational guides to build a brand narrative for LPL that resonates with both internal and external stakeholders. The narrative's purpose is to educate strategic partners and community members on the role of the LPL and work to attract, enhance and maintain patrons and partnerships to meet this goal. 3. To continue to positively elevate the profile of LPL within the Lethbridge community, southern Alberta and the province. 4. To raise the Lethbridge Public Library's profile as a trusted community provider and partner through its programs and services. 5. To develop awareness and heighten positive perception of the Lethbridge Public Library and to encourage community engagement and support of the LPL over time. LPL's Communications Team is leading the roll out of this multi-year plan which includes a goal to Explore New Communications Opportunities, Tools and Tactics. As part of the approach to this goal, they completed a marketing effectiveness audit in late 2023. The audit was aimed at better understanding all the ways the Library is promoting its programs and services to analyze performance, measure effectiveness and develop recommendations for improvement. As part of this audit, an ROI (return on investment) of The Happening publication was considered and the decision was made to discontinue this publication in its current form. Moving forward, LPL will be focusing on promoting programs, events and services through our newly re-vamped website, social media, and a quarterly Program Guide that will be available online and in library branches. We will also be rolling out future initiatives such as the ability to sign up for emails straight to your inbox, customized with the content that interests you most. We are very excited to share all the amazing resources and services available through the Library with our community in new and exciting ways. Be sure to keep an eye on our social media, website, and in branch for new ways to learn about everything happening at your Lethbridge Public Library!
